The Israel Kibbutz Orchestra
The Israel Kibbutz Orchestra was founded thirty years ago and since then it belongs to the leading musical institutions in Israel’s cultural life. It consists of musicians from kibbutzim and moshavim as well as developing towns far away from the large population centers. Its establishment was based on two main ideas:

1. The professional musicians in the different kibbutzim and moshavim are offered an appropriate artistic sphere of activity and a suitable place of work. However, in the course of the years, the orchestra also became a place of refuge for the numerous musicians among the immigrants from the former Soviet Union. The Kibbutz Orchestra offers these mostly outstandingly well-trained musicians a new artistic and musical framework and support them in their integration into the Israeli society.

2. The inhabitants of the Israeli peripheral areas are provided with a high-quality cultural program. The inhabitants of many kibbutzim and moshavim and also remote towns in the south and in the north of Israel are often not able to utilize the cultural programs of the large centers (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa). The Kibbutz Orchestra brings high-quality concert entertainment to these far-away areas of the country as well.
In the course of time, the Kibbutz Orchestra has developed into a leading repertoire orchestra for classical and modern music and is today one of the three best orchestras of its kind in Israel. Numerous visiting musicians and visiting conductors have already appeared with the orchestra and have expressed their enthusiasm about its musical approach and the unique atmosphere. Visiting performances of the orchestra abroad emphasize its artistic reputation.
The music repertoire of the orchestra comprises a wide range of current classical and modern works. However, great value is also attached to the performance of original works of Israeli composers. Directed by Yaron Gottfried, the orchestra has developed into a symbol of the kibbutz culture both in Israel and abroad.
